Workshop 2 „Writing in interdisciplinary teams“ (RTG)

Academic writing is characterized by discipline-specific rules and conventions. Very often a large part of these norms and rules remains unspoken and unconscious, even for experienced scholars. When researchers from different disciplines or sub-disciplines come together to work on a text, these silent practices often become perceivable and are called into question. This does not always happen smoothly – often the persons involved are puzzled, confused, uncomprehending: “What's that all about, is that how it works with you guys?”, “There's no way we can do it like that, it will never get published!”

This workshop on writing in interdisciplinary teams aims to raise awareness of precisely these moments. How can they be used to uncover and possibly rethink the writing practices of one’s own discipline and thus one’s own daily activities? What can interdisciplinary teams of writers do to use small and large frictions productively for their common text? In this way, interdisciplinary collaboration not only leads to innovations in research, but also encourages researchers to expand their scope of action as writers and to adopt a well-founded individual stance on issues of academic writing and texts.
