Workshop 1 „Scientific Writing: Getting started“ (RTG)

In this workshop, everything revolves around the most important prerequisites for a well-prepared, motivated and goal-oriented start into the PhD writing project. The workshop focuses on the process of writing and shows various possibilities, approaches, exercises and strategies for getting your texts around the PhD going. Participants will have plenty of time to try out new methods, to apply insights from writing research, and to exchange experiences among themselves. The workshop thus aims at clarifying the most pressing questions around the start of the writing project:

  • Is my topic clarified, viable, and feasible?
  • Who has what expectations of my doctoral project?
  • What experiences have I had with academic writing so far?
  • How can I structure and plan my writing process?
  • How do I set myself concrete and feasible writing goals?
  • How do I create writing routines that fit into my personal and work life?
  • Should I actually start writing better early or late?
  • How do I overcome motivation lows and writer’s block?

Throughout the workshop, we take the individual writing preferences and the specifics of each text project seriously.
