The TRR 318 is continuing its successful postcard campaign, which invites people to engage in dialogue about AI in an unusual way. Last year, postcards with two different designs were distributed in pubs in Bielefeld and Paderborn to reach people who might not otherwise have approached the TRR experts with their questions. The printed QR codes took interested people to the TRR 318 website, where they could ask their questions about AI. Alternatively, the cards could be mailed directly to the project team by post with a question.
The response was good: the researchers received numerous questions both online and by mail. The questions were answered in detail by the experts of TRR 318 and are now available on the website. Here are some examples of the topics people were most interested in:
Which influence will AI have on the creation of images and texts?
“AI technologies such as Midjourney and ChatGPT can now generate images and text based on instructions that are almost indistinguishable from human work. (...) However, as soon as a very specific (e.g. daily updated) content is to be displayed or a certain quality is to be guaranteed, human intervention is still necessary. One of the dangers of AI in this context is its misuse for manipulation and misinformation, as the generated images and texts are almost indistinguishable from the real ones”.
- Professor Henning Wachsmuth, project leader C04, INF
How will AI change our work and our societies?
“AI can increasingly automate, partially or fully, activities that we previously thought required human skills or intelligence. (...) But automation is also likely to be accompanied by an intensification of work. Activities that used to take a long time will now be done in the blink of an eye”.
- Professor Henning Wachsmuth, project leader C04, INF
Is AI the beginning of the end of the social structure?
“AI is a radical transformation of society that will have a profound impact on the way sociality is understood and practiced. But this is not the first time this has happened. In the past, our society has dealt with the impact of other radical innovations”.
- Professor Elena Esposito, project leader B01

Campaign continues - questions still welcome
The opportunity to ask questions will continue. Interested parties are invited to continue to contact the researchers of TRR 318 with their questions about artificial intelligence and its implications. Submitted questions will be answered by experts and published on the website.
