8th Episode of the Podcast “Explaining Explainability”: Context

Why does Artificial Intelligence often provide unsatisfying answers that do not meet the needs of the questioner? Unlike in human-to-human interactions, AI does not know the context of a situation or a person and therefore frequently delivers answers that are too basic, too technical, or simply unhelpful in the given circumstances.

In the eighth and final episode of the podcast “Explaining Explainability,” Prof. Dr.-Ing. Britta Wrede speaks with Prof. Dr. Friederike Kern and Prof. Dr. Benjamin Paaßen about the role of context in explainable AI and how AI systems can be designed to be more context-sensitive.

The researchers discuss questions such as: What is context, why is it important, and how can it be modelled? They explore specific research questions and factors that are crucial for adapting AI to different contexts. In the final part of the episode, they also provide an outlook on their projects in the second funding phase of TRR 318, starting in 2026.
