5th Episode of the Podcast „Explaining Explainability“: Scaffolding

How do children learn their first words? How does a care robot learn to lift patients out of bed? In both scenarios, the support of others is key: parents who talk to their children and nurses who demonstrate the movements to the robots. The art of supporting learners so that they can master complex tasks independently is known as scaffolding.

In the fifth episode of the podcast “Explaining Explainability”, two experts shed light on what exactly happens during scaffolding: Dr. Angela Grimminger looks at the topic from a linguistic perspective, while Prof. Dr.-Ing. Anna-Lisa Vollmer focuses on robots that learn by interacting with laypeople. In conversation with moderator Prof. Dr.-Ing. Britta Wrede, they will discuss scaffolding in explanatory situations and present the role of scaffolding in their projects in TRR 318.
