The third episode of the “Explaining Explainability” podcast is entitled “Understanding” and has now been published. In this episode, Professor Britta Wrede, Professor Hendrik Buschmeier and Professor Heike Buhl focus on the process of understanding.
The experts will shed light on how people process and respond to information from different perspectives. The discussion will focus on key questions: How do you know when someone has understood something? And how can explainers adapt their approach to promote better understanding?
Among other things, this episode discusses the challenges arising from the interpretation of signals such as gestures, facial expressions and verbal feedback in real time. A comparison is also made between human-human and human-machine interactions. Moreover, the question is raised as to whether and how artificial intelligence could not only understand but also explain better in the future.
