Project B03: Exploring users, roles, and explanations in real-world contexts

Where and how do people of different age, gender, and social backgrounds encounter Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their everyday lives and how do they perceive it? In order to answer this and other questions, researchers from the field of media studies and sociology affiliated to project B03 will draw on information provided by study participants via an app in which they document their daily interactions with various Artificial Intelligence technologies (such as digital assistance systems, health apps, and social media). Based on the data collected, the researchers will identify users' specific needs for AI explanations in order to determine specific expectations, needs and challenges of different user groups when it comes to explainable - and therefore successful – AI.
