TRR 318 at the MMSYM 2024

The TRR 318 was strongly represented at this year's International Symposium for Multimodal Communication (MMSYM 2024) in Frankfurt. Professor Petra Wagner, project leader of A02, gave a keynote speech in which she presented the research of TRR 318 and the A02 project (Petra Wagner als Keynote-Speakerin bei MMSYM 2024). In addition, Professor Hendrik Buschmeier (A02), Stefan Lazarov (A02) and Vivien Lohmer (A04) showed their work in poster presentations.

Professor Hendrik Buschmeier presented joint work with Alina Naomi Riechmann on automatically reconstructing dialogue participants’ coordinating gaze behavior from multiple camera perspectives. Stefan Lazarov presented his poster entitled “Verbal signals of understanding do not predict a decrease of gesture deixis”. The poster presentation examines whether explainers use fewer pointing gestures when listeners signal understanding. Vivien Lohmer presented the poster “The Role of Interactive Gestures in Explanatory Interactions”, which shows the first results of her dissertation project. It deals with the use of interactive gestures in board game explanations, with a particular focus on their pragmatic function for introducing and linking semantically complete units.
