Amit Singh, a psycholinguist in Project A05, gave a presentation titled “Negation and Contrast: A Beneficial Context for Attention to Events and Their Memory?” at the Tagung experimentell arbeitender Psycholog*innen (TeaP 2026) in Tübingen.
The presentation addressed how negation in contrastive contexts can direct attention to events and support their memory representation. Building on several eye-tracking studies, it was demonstrated that negation can link past and present actions, enabling a better understanding of event structures.
In addition, considerations regarding the role of negation in contrastive explanations within the context of narrative guidance were discussed. The results of this research offer insights for the co-construction of explanations in human-AI interaction.
